Institute of Applied Mechanics

About us

Institute of the Applied Mechanics is the direct descendent of the Institute for Material Testing of the Royal Technical High School in Zagreb that was established in 1920. The founder and the first Chair of the Institute was Prof. S. P. Timoshenko, who gave huge contribution to the Institute during his two years stay in Zagreb (1920 - 1922). The Institute had other highly distinguished members, such as  Prof. K. Chalishev, Prof. D. Bazjanac and Prof. A. Vucetic. Currently, the staff consists of over twenty lecturers/researchers.
The main task of the Institute is the teaching, research and application of research results in the fields of:

  analytical mechanics

  biomechanics

  continuum mechanics

  dynamics of systems

  experimental methods

  numerical mechanics

  structural analysis

The Institute consists of the three following chairs:

Chair of Advanced Dynamics and Systems

  Chair of Experimental Mechanics

Chair of Mechanics and Strength of Materials

The research and teaching at the Institute are performed within the following laboratories:

Laboratory of Dynamics of Machinery and Theory of Mechanisms

  Laboratory of Experimental Mechanics

  Laboratory of Numerical Mechanics

   The Institute has 30 - 40 grad. engineer graduates, 4 - 5 MSc graduates and 1 - 3 PhD graduates, yearly.
