- Sažetak
- The process of engineering design, which leads to product development, is being revolutionized by advances in digitalization, particularly data-driven principles and artificial intelligence (AI). AI plays a crucial role in supporting various design stages and introduces a new method of invention. Therefore, research on AI in design is an exciting emerging topic that broadens traditional design research and serves as a powerful integration point for design research and other disciplines. The integration of AI in design aims to achieve both automation and augmentation, enabling the industry to address the growing complexity of product design, manufacturing, and the value chain. AI assistive technologies, capable of understanding and generating text, images, and 3D models, can enhance designers by assisting, suggesting alternatives, or predicting outcomes. These AI assistive technologies offer promising applications within Computer-Aided Design (CAD), which is essential for designers to create, optimize, and test design artifacts virtually before physical manufacturing. CAD also enables multiple designers to collaborate synchronously on the same design artifact (collaborative CAD) and enhances Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) by enabling seamless file-sharing, visibility of design changes, version control, and knowledge capture for future decision-making. Thus, AI assistive technologies and collaborative CAD are reshaping design and PLM by enhancing efficiency, collaboration, and decision-making. However, there is a gap in understanding the impact of AI assistive technologies within collaborative CAD and PLM activities. This gap underscores the need for the primary objective of this project, which is to advance collaborative CAD and PLM activities by exploring the influence of AI assistive technologies. The research will focus on identifying and understanding the various factors influenced by this technology and their impact on designers collaborating in CAD and PLM.
