Reliability of Marine Power Plants

Course objectives:
Introduction with methodology of reliability characteristics determination and application of reliability criterion into design and maintenance of marine power plants.
Student responsibilities:
Grading and evaluation of student work over the course of instruction and at a final exam:
30% assigned task, 70% written and oral exam.
Methods of monitoring quality that ensure acquisition of exit competences:
Oral exam of basic knowledge in statistics, thermodynamics and mechanical engineering.
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to (learning outcomes):
Application of basic knowledge in reliability of technical systems in solving simpler problems in marine engineering. Definition of basic characteristics of element and system reliability in marine power plant. Analysis and evaluation of reliability of different types of systems. Analysis and evaluation of marine energy systems reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM). Design of system for monitoring and statistical analysis of RAM characteristic of marine energy system.

3. Reliability characteristics of repairable and unrepairable systems.
4. Maintainability and availability characteristics of system.
5. Functional analysis of marine power system.
6. Models of functional conections of marine power system elements.
7. Analysis of kinds and effects of failures.
8. Mathematical models for serial systems RAM characteristics determination.
9. Mathematical models for paralel systems RAM characteristics determination.
10. Mathematical models for standby redundant systems RAM characteristics determination.
11. Input data for RAM characteristics estimate.
12. Integral system for RAM characteristics analysis and observation.
13. Application of reliability criterion into marine power plant design.
14. Application of reliability criterion into marine power plant maintenance.
15. Development of classification society rules on the basis of marine power plants RAM characteristics.
