AND ITS IMPLICATIONS FOR ENGINEERING DESIGN RESEARCH AND EDUCATION

Abstract

In ‘The Nature of Technology’ W Brian Arthur presents a theory of technology – ‘a coherent group of general propositions’ that gives us a framework for understanding what technology is and how it works in the world, especially to form a theory of evolution valid for technology.   In this seminar, Chris McMahon will present an overview of Arthur’s book and will then explore the implications of his theory for engineering design research and education.
