Numerical Modeling of Coupled Problems in Applied Physics with OpenFoam (NUMAP-FOAM)
at the University of Zagreb
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture
Laboratory for Numerical Simulation of Flight Vehicle Dynamics and Structural Systems
Zagreb, Croatia; 02-15 September 2009
Faculty of Mechanical Engineering (FSB), University of Zagreb, Croatia announces the Second Summer School on Numerical Modeling of Coupled Problems in Applied Physics with OpenFoam (NUMAP-FOAM) for PhD students and young researchers in Zagreb in September 2009.
Description Following the successful first edition of the Summer School in 2008, we are keen to encourage the use of OpenFOAM within the academic and research community. The Summer School will gather a small number of attendees, who will spend 10 working days working under supervision on their own project. Local staff and supervisors will help in the work through one-on-one tutored sessions and group lectures on the subject of numerical modelling, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and in particular OpenFOAM. Also, the lectures on chosen topics of mathematical and numerical modeling pertinent to coupled problems in engineering and applied physics will be delivered. |
The Programme Chairs of the Summer School are Professor Zdravko Terze and Professor Hrvoje Jasak, original OpenFOAM developer, with the assistance of local OpenFOAM experts. This call extends to members of the OpenFOAM Teaching Group who would like to contribute in supervision of students.
To ensure quality of work and supervision, the number of places is strictly limited.
Place and Time
The Summer School will run from Wednesday 2 September to Tuesday 15 September 2009 at the Laboratory for Numerical Simulation of Flight Vehicle Dynamics and Structural Systems, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb, Ivana Lucica 5, Zagreb, Croatia.
How to Apply: OpenFOAM Summer School 2009
To apply, please write a one-page description of the project you wish to work on, with current problems and goals to be achieved at the Summer School. Applications are open to all students on MSc and PhD University courses, as well as young researchers in commercial companies with OpenFOAM experience.
Please note this is NOT an introductory OpenFOAM course: significant understanding of the project and software is a pre-requisite for application.
Deadline for application is 1 May 2009. Successful candidates will be informed within two weeks of closing date.
Once your participation is confirmed, please download and fill-up the application form.
Accommodation and Costs
Attendees to the Summer School should plan to cover their travel and accommodation expenses, ideally bringing a laptop computer with them. A registration fee for the Summer School is EUR 500 per attendee.
