Academician Božidar Liščić, born on 17 January 1929, from the Department of Materials, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb, is a world-renowned researcher and professional in the fields of heat treatment and surface engineering and an eminent expert in the theory and technology of quenching.
Academician Liščić’s co-workers and colleagues have collected his most relevant texts and published a reprint, along with a biography. The Department of Materials wishes Academician Liščić a very happy 90th birthday, the best of health and many more interesting papers in the near future. 
The main research topics are: the development and application of Liscic/Nanmac and Liscic/Petrofer probes, measurement, evaluation and modelling of quenching dynamics, prediction of properties after quenching, hardenability and steel selection, controllable heat extraction model and gas quenching.
