Student Competition YEAR2008I am writing to tell you about the YEAR2008 project that your students would be interested in. The project, which is organised by University College Dublin (UCD), Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute (ZAG), Continental Corporation and the Forum of European National Highway Research Laboratories (FEHRL), and funded by the European Commission, is a student competition for postgraduates and final year Undergraduates working on road transport research. The scope includes all aspects of road transport from Geotechnics (slope stability) to Structures (bridges), Pavements, Logistics/Planning, Transport Economics, Mechanical Engineering (automotive), Energy and the Environment. There is even a category for creative ideas on where you believe transport is going in the distant future! Fifty finalists will be selected from across Europe and will be funded to travel to the TRA08 conference in Slovenia this April. There they will exhibit their research at the conference for 1,500 delegates to see. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be awarded in each of 6 categories.
To enter, all they need to do is to log onto the website – http://year.fehrl.org – and upload a 300-500 word abstract (with a few illustrations). That’s it! It could not be easier! The 22nd February deadline for abstracts is fast approaching, so I urge you to encourage your students to apply! A promotional video that can be circulated to your students is available on the website. | |
